Living with Schizophrenia
and Other Mental Illnesses
( LWS&OMI )
This is what happenes during a LWS&OMI program:
Consumers who are actively engaged in their own recovery present basic
information about
their illnesses, coping,
and their realistic prospects for maintaining wellness
and reclaiming fulfilling,
productive lives. A presentation can last from
about one-half hour
to three times that long, depending on the audience and
their questions and
involvement.
Consumer presentations
cover the disruption and trauma mental illness
brings to one’s life,
what it takes to maintain wellness, and the hopes and
dreams that are possible
with today’s supports and treatments. LWS&OMI is
offered to various
audiences by people who are actually living the reality of
recovery, becoming
role models for others striving to regain lives, and inviting
all segments of their
communities to discuss what serious mental illnesses
really mean for those
who have them.
