What were you doing when the lights went out Monday night? Hopefully, you were sitting the audience savoring the last beautiful notes to be heard at one of the finest classical music performances yet presented in Seldovia!! Anchorage Studio Opera AND Riverrun Chamber players graced the stage at Susan B. English School in a three part evening spectacular!!

Part One of the magical evening began with a performance by Riverrun Chamber Players of Devorak's String Quartet #12 in F Major, Opus 96, "the American", ma non troppo.. which was then followed by Lento, Molt Vivace, and Vivace ma non troppo to complete the set. Moving from intricate piece of music to the next, the music written by Czechoslovakian music master composer, Devorak showcased the incredible musical virtuosity of Riverrun Chamber "string" Players, Joanna Jenner on first violin, Ling Ping How on violin, Jenny Douglas Viola, and Lisa Lancaster on cello. Commentary on the composers and explanations of the musical terms given by director, Joanna Jenner provided additional insight into the music and was particulary helpful to the young Susan B. English audience, their parents and community members. The group traveled to the Katchemak Bay from New York State, where they all hold positions in various prestigious orchestras and specifically get together in the summer to create the Riverrun Music Festival. >>>>  Go to Part Two

Wish I had a clip of their beautiful music for you to hear!
In Part Three, the River Run Chamber players again took the stage. This time a collage of musical pieces made up a patchwork of music humor which included
Rossini: Moderato, from the Quartet in C Major
Franz Josef Hayden: Finale: Presto from String Quartet in eb, Opus 33,#2
Dmitri Shostakovich: Allegretto: Polka from ballet, "The Age of Gold" Opus 22
Jon Deak: Lucy and the Count.
The addition of composer Jon Deak to the group on double bass added texture to the performances. The original work "Lucy and the Count" composed by Jon Deak made the audience shudder with delight!!!

The three tired performance was part of Seldovia Arts Council's series of presentations.
River Run Chamber group was part of a performance tour of the Kenai Peninsula sponsored by area arts councils to include Seldovia, Homer, and Kenai, a WESTAF Touring Arts Grant and a Harper Touring Grant sponsored by the Rasmussen Foundation. The Anchorage Opera was funded by CIRI and by the Seldovia Arts Council.

Here they all are in concert playing Jon Deak's Composition

Special Thanks to CIRI (Anchorage Opera Studio Theater Grant), The Alaska State Council on the Arts (Program Grant and Harper Touring Arts Grant sponsored by the Rasmussen Foundation), WESTAF (Touring Grant) and Susan Mumma of the Seldovia Arts Council for bringing these groups to Seldovia. Without your financial aid and support, these two concerts would not have been possible.   You made it happen!
